Internet Meme: Rebecca Black

When you read this post, I’m very sure you have heard the song Friday by Rebecca Black.

Rebecca Black’s song went viral over the Internet with much criticism over the song lyrics and how it really didn’t make any sense. Many covers are hitting YouTube with everyone taking a shot at Rebecca Black. Not to forget the amount of jokes on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

The lyrics include the most obvious fact of all like “Yesterday was Thursday, and Tomorrow is Friday” and “Tomorrow is Saturday, and Sunday comes afterwards”

Tell us what you think about the video in the comments below.

My Fridays would never be the same again.

Get Quake Updates from Japanese PM via Twitter

The Japanese Prime Minister’s Office has set up an English-language Twitter account to update the Twitterverse (and the rest of the world) on the aftermath of the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.

The account named @JPN_PMO was started on Wednesday and shall be tweeting translations of @Kantei_Saigai which is the Japanese version of the account and was started after the quake hit Japan.

Japan PM on Twitter

Japan is still coping up with the disaster and also a possible nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Power Plant. However, much credit has been given to the calmness and strength of the Japanese people who are setting a great example to the rest of the world.

The english version of its Twitter account is certainly a great way for the world to stay connected with the events happening in Japan and to also avoid false rumours which easily speculate over Twitter and the Internet. Social media in general too has been a vital tool for the Japanese to get in touch with their loved ones and in providing information and news about the situation there.

Our prayers are with Japan and hope they will come out of this disaster as a strong nation we have always known as.

The world came to a standstill yesterday as shocking news on the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan left many people devastated. Japan was hit by a 8.9 magnitude earthquake which was followed by a 10 metre high tsunami wave (the worst to hit Japan in more than 100 years) and the social media world was left abuzz.

Victims have reached out to the world via Twitter and Facebook as well as Mixi – which is Japan’s very own social networking site since cellphone services are not as reliable as they used to be thanks to the damage left by the earthquake and tsunami. The rest of the world are getting all the news and updates on Twitter, Facebook and live blogs.

After shocks are still hitting Japan and Tsunami has traveled as far as Indonesia, Philipines and Hawaii. Fortunately, the waves have not left a huge damage to these countries. Tsunami warnings were released to at least 30 countries yesterday when the Tsunami first hit Japan. Oil refineries in Japan were on fire and nuclear power plants are emmiting radiation and have been shut down.

Here is a compilation of Social Media sites and live blogs where you can get news and updates on the Japan earthquake and tsunami:

When Tumblr Is Down

Tumblr has been down for the past hour. This time it’s not the “We’ll be back shortly” Error or the Tumbeast error. Tumblr users are able to read their dashboard but unable to post something or reblog a post. This is the error page that is currently familiar to most tumblr users:

Tumblr Error

In this frustration I stumbled upon a site called When Tumblr Is Down. This site contains funny quotes starting with the word “When Tumblr Is Down”, for example:

When Tumblr Is Down

You guys should check out this site too and laugh out loud just as I did. And don’t forget to tell us what you do when Tumblr is down.

Explore Tumblr – a new way to search tumblogs

If you have been on Tumblr lately, you might have noticed the disappearance of the “Search” button. Search Tumblr is now “Explore Tumblr“. You can find this button at the top of you Tumblr dashboard. It is also available on your sidebar below the word “Tracked Tags”.

Explore Tumblr

The best part of this new feature is that Tumblr has organised all it’s greatest post from a whole lot of great tumblogs to just a single page. Users just have to click on the category for example Art, Inspiration, Film or Libya just to name a few. There is also a long list of “Popular Tags” on Tumblr.

Explore Tumblr

This is certainly a great feature by Tumblr since the old search thing was messy, unorganised and filled with recommendation stickers that you can barely find the link to the tumblog.

What do you think of this new “Explore” feature? Tell us in the comments page below.

Apple Launches The iPad 2

Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for. Apple launched the much anticipated iPad 2 in a private event today.

The iPad 2 is said to be faster than the first iPad with Apple using a custom-designed 1GHz dual-core A5 chip, which uses the same amount of power as the A4 chip but is twice as fast. The iPad 2 is 8.8mm thick while the first iPad was 13.4mm which makes it 33% thinner. And as predicted, there is a front and back facing camera which is capable of video recording at 720p at 30 frames per second and the front camera is VGA camera which is made for video conferencing. iPad 2 users will also be capable of connecting their iPads with their HDTVs with a HDMI adapter at $39.

The iPad 2 uses the iOS 4.3 operating system. There is also an improve version of AirPlay – which allows you to share songs and slideshows between the iPad and other devices. iTunes sharing is built in and FaceTime is now available for the iPad. iMovie and Garage Band which had some updates on it are also available for the iPad2 at $5.

Apple has also created “Smart Covers” for the iPad2 – which acts like a casing and protects the screen of the iPad 2 from damage.

This is the introduction video of the iPad 2 by Apple.

The iPad 2 will be available (in both white and black) starting March 11 in the U.S. and March 25 in 26 more countries. It’ll be offered in 16GB, 32GB of 64GB models, either with Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and 3G, all for the same prices as the first iPad.

Tell us what you think about the iPad 2, will you be spending your cash on it?
