Ubuntu 11.10 is finally here!

After six months of development, the much awaited Ubuntu 11.10, or more commonly known as Oneiric Ocelot, was released today.

By comparing Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 11.04, we can see many changes made to it, especially towards to Unity Dash and Launcher. The Dash now features the Lenses feature, for better files and apps searching – something that lacked in 11.04. LightDM is also now the default login screen, with new default apps and changes to certain apps like the Ubuntu Software Center.

If you’re all excited to know what’s new, watch the video below:

Amazing isn’t it? You can also get a live tour at Ubuntu’s website which is pretty impressive.

I’m currently really excited with this release and so is the rest of the Ubuntu community. Both “Oneiric Ocelot” and “Ubuntu 11.10” was trending on Twitter when the OS was released. And I’m not praying my internet connection doesn’t fail me as I upgrade from Natty Narwhal. Nothing against Natty, it’s been a great OS but Oneiric is just awesome. :)

More updates on Oneiric Ocelot coming soon!
